Here at Blooming Bath we love it when people create a new take on an old idea (just like we did with our baby bath tubs and baby bath scrubbies). That why we thought it would be fun to share with you a really cool interactive map that takes a baby name and traces its popularity throughout the United States over the last century.
Simply type in a baby name, or your own name (like we did) and watch as the states light up showing how the popularity of the name spread throughout the nation from 1910 all the way up to present day.
The map’s creator, Brian Rowe, compiled the map from census data to show the history of more than 29,000 baby names. In addition to creating a mighty fun tool, he also found some interesting correlations between names and regional clusters. One example is the name Terrence, which started being used in the Midwest in the mid-1900s and decades later became a baby name chosen in the southern states.
Take your baby's name, or your name for a spin on the map and see what you discover about its history.
